This mandolin was the prototype that led me to the final design. It has a very loud and present tone, but it lacks the sustain and sweetness I was after. The owner plays in a street band, so it is the right tool for the job.

Mandolin #6

Features :

  • French Ash hollowed solid body with central beam
  • Flamed maple top
  • 5-ply maple guled-on neck, with pulti-ply head veneer.
  • No truss-rod
  • Gotoh capped tuners

  • Rosewood guled-on bridge
  • Natural bone saddle and nut
  • Gloss lacquer finish (hand polished)
  • Under-saddle pickup, embedded preamp and battery housing.

This mandolin is one of the earliest prototypes. It has crystal clear tone with very long sustain when plugged in, but it lacks a bit of "woody" character and it is very quiet unplugged. It was used on stage and in studio for recording with very satisfactory results.
